PAWS of Coronado is excited to announce the 2020 Canine Mayoral Election!  This bi-annual event raises funds to help cover medical care for the animals at PAWS.  The fundraiser kicks off February 10, 2020 when applications are available for hopeful “caninedidates.”

PAWS is calling all local four legged Paw-liticians with something to say.  Applications will be accepted through February 28.  Campaigning begins March 1 and voting takes place April 1-30.  The inauguration will take place in the beginning of May (exact date TBA).  To qualify, all of the caninedidates must be residents of Coronado or have been adopted from PAWS of Coronado, see additional information in application.  All applications must be submitted online or delivered to the Coronado Animal Care Facility (1395 First Street).

The winner will serve as Coronado’s Canine Mayor for a two year term, runner ups will be members of the Canine City Council.  All participants are welcome to join PAWS in the annual Fourth of July Parade and other PAWS activities!

10th Annual Taste of Coronado – presented by the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club

Spend the evening on Coronado Island, indulging your senses and enjoying amazing bites prepared by our local chefs. Take a culinary trip around the world sampling from our local bistros. Meander along Orange Avenue or take a ride on the complimentary trolley. This will be a night to remember so come and bring your friends!

Tickets are open to all ages but you must be 21 or older to participate in the alcohol tastings.
On the day of the event, please bring your e-ticket print out to on our our ticket locations on Orange Ave

 + Location #1 Rotary Plaza at the 1000 block of Orange Ave
+ Location #2 Ferry Landing, 1201 1st St (intersection of 1st St & B Ave)

We will exchange your ticket for a tasting card. You can start your tastings from either end of Orange Avenue.

Movies on the Bay:  Everyone is invited to the free “Movies on the Bay” event at 6:30 p.m. at Tidelands Park, 2000 Mullinex Drive, on Friday, July 26. Attendees will enjoy free pre-screen activities including crafts, games and contests. “Incredibles 2” will be shown on the big screen at 8 p.m. Bring a blanket or beach chair, a jacket and a picnic dinner and movie snacks. Demystifying Design: A Floral Design Workshop will be held at the Library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, by the Library and the Coronado Floral Association to those interested in knowing more about the annual Coronado Flower Show. Attendees will learn about the Show’s design division, an overview of various National Garden Club styles and approaches to creating floral designs to help inspire others. The two-hour event will include how to become more involved in the longest-running tented flower show in the United States.

This annual event features community awards for local heroes, showcases our restaurants, and is the ultimate networking mixer.  Mix and Flamingle!

The Coronado Chamber of Commerce will recognize police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and City employees at an annual event to allow the community to thank and celebrate its hometown heroes. The event is set for Wednesday, July 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. Tickets cost $65. The 2019 award winners are:

  • Police Officers of the Year – Officer Ryan Brennan and Det. Kovahn Vlach;
  • Firefighter of the Year – Captain Josh Scarboro;
  • Lifeguard of the Year – Vandon Burgess;
  • Naval Base Coronado Firefighter of the Year – Firefighter/EMT Brandon Dominguez; and
  • City Employee of the Year – Police Sgt. Mark Harris.
