From the City of Coronado weekly newsletter:

Coronado Police Officer Bill Hughes named Officer of the Year

Officer of the Year:  Last week, Coronado Police Officer Bill Hughes was recognized as the San Diego Scottish Rite Officer of the Year. This is a big honor. Hughes was nominated for the work he did on a case last summer after responding to Hotel del Coronado where security officers reported a person acting strangely. Hughes discovered a woman had changed rooms to get to a higher floor several times. Staff reported seeing a small arsenal of weapons in her room. Hughes found and detained the suspect and determined that she had an illegal assault rifle, two handguns and several loaded magazines. She was arrested. When the woman made bail and returned to pick up her personal possessions, Hughes determined that she might be a danger to herself and others and called for a psychiatric hold. The City also thanks officer Hughes for his diligent work on this case.
